Hampton Life Saving Club is proud and excited to support our 4th year of Starfish Nippers in 2016/2017. It is a modified program for young individuals aged between 5 and 18 years (or thereabouts) with special needs. This may include but is not limited to Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, Global Developmental Delay, Down Syndrome, physical and intellectual disabilities and learning difficulties. The program is extended to approximately 18 years of age as many children and young adults with special needs function at a different level compared to their actual age. See our Starfish Flyer here.
Starfish Nippers aims to provide a water and beach safety and awareness program. Activities include: beach exercise, beach games, water familiarisation, swimming, beach and water activities and safety education. The program includes swimming, board skills, surf awareness, kayaking, lots of games, and many other exciting activities. This program is very flexible according to the needs of each Starfish Nipper, weather and water conditions and requirements of the club for safety.
Each Starfish Nipper is supported by a Mentor. This is to ensure maximum participation is achieved through adjustment of the program according to the individual needs of the Starfish nipper and so we can maintain our high standard of water and beach safety during the program. The program runs alongside HLSC nippers on a Saturday afternoon, for 12 sessions, from 3-4pm.
